A crack is a crack

Francis Allen of Hyattsville, Maryland gives his two cents worth.

Alan,

Mr. Montano’s definition for heat checks, hidden fractures, annealing imperfetions and other euphemisms for cracks is excellent; it’s still a crack. But a crack is acceptable in special circumstances. The Hedwig Glass in the collection of the Corning Museum of Glass is visibly cracked but they eagerly bid on it anyway. I bought a Sandwich canary yellow dolphin candlestick with a cracked socket which nobody but myself bid on, but, at under a dollar, it was a no brainer. If the price is right for you all is OK.
