Next, we hear from Gwen Stebbins of Davison, Michigan on the idiosyncrasies of collectors.
I have mixed thoughts on Marshall Ketchum’s comment. While as a dealer, I do not buy anything with damage. As a collector, if I like it, I buy it because I am a true hoarder of fine objects that I enjoy with no intention of reselling. My son keeps telling me when I die, he wants all of the Galle glass and I just smile and hope he realizes the “good” things are for sale all of the time, if it is in the house, chances are I just like it and who knows the condition and it isn’t for sale anyways. Aren’t most of us dealer/collectors like that? Once it is in the house, it doesn’t come out unless we decide to go in another direction?
A little embarrassed to admit it but back in the early 80’s when I was having children and couldn’t afford to collect finer things, I collected Haeger Earth Graphics pottery and the hoarder in me can’t let go even though I haven’t had a piece out in years. I keep telling myself “ITS TIME” all the while, it is sitting in the warehouse taking up space because you know, SOME DAY I may decide to decorate with it and I could never find another one of the thousands of objects they made lol.
Ahhhhhhh, the life of a collector or is it hoarder?
