Gerry’s Plight

First, our member Gerald Eggert of Syracuse, New York appears to be sending a message from his mailing list saying he has been robbed in England, is stranded and please send money. Usually and likely this is a scam. Not by Gerry, but someone who has illicitly tapped into his mailbox. If you hit the return button you’ll see that the address quickly looks like his address, but it isn’t his address as shown in the message; just close. So, don’t be taken in. Hopefully, I’m right. I don’t want Gerry to be stranded, but I think not.

Then, this piece from David Goldstein on color.

Last December in Gazettes 1004, 1005 and 1001 we had some dialog regarding the color of the Diving Ladies in my 6497 Centerpiece. During the recent Symposium Gail Bardhan of the Rakow Library showed a slide of page 131 of the June, 1927 issue of The Glass Industry showing several Carder designs. One of the designs shown was a 6514 Eagle Centerpiece (Item 7 in the attached page image), so I asked Gail for a print of the page, which she graciously provided.

As I was perusing the page, I realized there was also a lamp pictured that used three Diving Ladies in Smoke (Item 3) to support the shade. Given this evidence that the Diving Lady was made in Smoke, I have to assume that my Diving Ladies are also Smoke. A picture of the centerpiece is also attached.

The bowl on the Eagle centerpiece shown in Item 7 has a stem that fits into a hole in the base. The base of my Eagle centerpiece does not have any such hole. I guess my Eagle Centerpiece should be considered as a 6514 variant
