Royal Purple or Gold Purple

So many purples. Marshall Ketchum identified a Gold Purple as a Royal Purple and had to recant. See http://cardersteubenclub.org/shapes/item-view.cfm?RecordID=24867

Bob Mueller makes the same correction, as noted below. Bob has a treasure trove of ephemera to which he looked for his opinion. Bob has shared some of this ephemera in the past with us. There is so much information on Carder Steuben. Some can be found on the www.cardersteubenclub.org website. Then some can be found in the many standard reference books and the other materials published over the years. The ultimate source is The Rakow Library at the Corning Museum of Glass. They have a huge collection of materials, whether Steuben or glass in general. The staff at the Rakow is most generous and helpful for anyone trying to do research. Bob says.

GOOD MORNING ALAN,
I HAVE DECIDED TO PUT ANOTHER VERSION ON THE COLOR OF THIS PIECE THAT MARSHALL PUT UP ON THE INTER-NET FOR US. THE COLOR “ROYAL PURPLE” THAT MARSHALL USED COULD BE RIGHT, BUT IN SOMETHING I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION IN MY NOTEBOOKS, THE CAT.NO. 8026, IN THIS LINE DRAWING I HAVE ( ALSO PAGE 203 IN PAUL’S BOOK) SAYS “IT IS GOLD PURPLE ON CALCITE WITH GOLD AURENE VINE DECORATION, AND COST $6.00 IN THE LATE YEARS AT STEUBEN GLASS. THE PIECE WAS MADE FOR ART LAMP CO. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY AN UNINPEACHABLE PERSON WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY LAMP ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO THAT THIS WAS A SPECIAL ORDER BY THE ART LAMP CO, AND THAT THEY ORDERED 120 OF THEM.

I DON,T KNOW IF THIS HELPS ALL OF US OR IF THIS PUTS A MONKEY WRENCH IN TRYING TO SOLVE THE COLORS OF MR. CARDERS BUT I HOPE IT DOES HELP US ALL.
THANKS BOB MUELLER
