A little more honing in on the “grapefruit” dish.
First, we hear from John Styler of Prospect Heights, Illinois
Now you must have known I would eventually enter the fuss on this grapefruit issue.
I do not know the size of the inner piece but I would assume it is a Shrimp Cocktail
piece similar to the Waterford and Limoges sets we have. Crushed ice surrounding
the center piece filled with sauce and jumbo shrimp dangling over the rim.
I believe this was more the style back in the thirties.
Then, Beth Shaut of the Carder Steuben Glass Shop in Corning provides this additional information.
Alan: We have 4 Shrimp cocktail sets in Rosalene and Alabaster. This shape sold with the cup insert is a ‘Shrimp cocktail set’ and without the cup a ‘Grapefruit’. Beth
