The other day we saw a lamp with a black overlay cut to blue vase. The question is what is Carder’s true color for black. Most comments have indicated that Carder black is a true black and not blue or amethyst, which is typical of other makers. Now Beth Shaut of the Carder Steuben Shop in Corning responds to the black cut to blue vase.

In my experience most black overlay for ACB on lamps are actually Black Amethyst not Black Jade. We had a Dragon lamp several years ago the was Black amethyst on Topaz. Really stunning.
