Gerry Eggert of Rochester, New York adds this commentary

I went to a small Auction in Rochester yesterday. My observation is that Chinese and Japanese objects are commanding good prices. Early American paintings are also in demand. Glass and pottery are flat. Of the Art Glass, Quezel was strong, Pairpoint Lamps were moderate, and Steuben Shades were flat. Collectable’s, i.e., multiple copies of the same object, are very much depressed. Furniture in Rochester is very low, and sinking. A 1830 New York style curly/birdseye maple and cherry dresser with Sandwich pulls went for $500.

On the other hand, I bid on a nice piece of 19th Century Chinese glass at an auction in New Hampshire. It went for 40% above the high estimate.
