Traveling this summer? (Carder Steuben at University of Southern Indiana)

If you’re crossing the country centrally from east to west on Interstate 64 you might want to stop in Evansville, Indiana to see a small exhibit at the University of Southern Indiana. Yes, our regional University–University of Southern Indiana (“USI”) has put together an elegant exhibition. (see announcement attached). As other Gazette’s have, from time to time suggested, Carder Steuben collectors should look to institutions convenient to them for exhibition opportunities.

What I’ve learned working with our local university is that they have a major collection of art objects (over 1,500 items) and therefore personal to support and maintain these collections. They’re delighted with the opportunity to exhibit; they have the exhibition space and security. An exhibit of Carder glass provides an opportunity to educate. USI has a major art program, as do many universities. However, they’re focus isn’t on glass. Therefore, they’re delighted and excited to have the opportunity to showcase this medium to their art students and student population and visitors, in general.

Hopefully, in days to come I’ll have an opportunity to share some pictures of the exhibit and copies of the exhibit descriptions showing the education possibilities and opportunities. USI’s curator, Susan Sauls, shows what can be done. Opportunities abound. Should anyone be travelling and stopping, if they’ll let me know and I’m around there is a second opportunity to see my broader collection and hospitality at our home. Alan Shovers
