Bob Mueller responds to the discussion developing about the 1916-17 Rouge Flambe period and the 1926+ period. Also, Rande Bly has provided some Rouge pictures. One set on the 1926 House Beautiful Ad and a 1916 period bowl and 1926 period plate, similar to that shown in the ad from Bob Mueller.

DEAR ALAN, RANDE BROUGHT UP A VERY NICE QUESTION ABOUT THE ARTICLE I WROTE ON ROUGE FLAMBE. HIS POINT IS RIGHT IN THE AD HE IS TALKING ABOUT IN 1926. WHEN I WROTE THE ARTICLE I ALSO LOOKED AT PHOTOS I HAVE FROM THE ROCKWELL MUSEUM, PAUL GARDNER AND TOM DIMITROFF’S BOOKS. THE TIME TABLE IS ALSO RIGHT, I ALSO REMEMBER WHEN BOB ROCKWELL WOULD SHOW ME THE DIFFERENT PIECES IN THE MUSEUM AND MENTION THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE AS COLLECTORS WOULD HAVE IS THE PROBLEMS WITH THE GLASS AND BEING ABLE TO TELL “””IF “”THE PIECE IS STEUBEN OR FROM ANOTHER COMPANY. WE ALL SEE ON THE INTERNET AUCTIONS THAT SAY THEY HAVE A PIECE OF STEUBEN ROUGH FLAMBE, AND THEN LATER FINE OUT THE PIECE IS PULLED, OR NOT SOLD BECAUSE SOMEONE BRINGS UP DOUBT ABOUT THE PIECE. IN MY UPCOMING BOOK THERE WILL BE DOUBT ABOUT ONE PIECE, BUT THE STORY BEHIND IT MADE ME THINK THAT THE PIECE IS LEGITIMATE.
EVEN AS I WRITE THIS AND LOOK AT PICTURES OF THE SHOW CASES THAT WERE IN THE ROCKWELL MUSEUM AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE IIN THE PIECES AND THE POSSIBLE CATALOG NUMBERS OF SOME OF THE PIECES, IT DOES MAKE YOU WONDER, DID MR. CARDER REJUVENATE HIS ROUGE FLAMBE?
THIS QUESTION IS ALSO GOING TO COME UP WHEN THE BOOK COMES OUT, BECAUSE OF THINGS I FOUND. RANDE DID BRING UP A GREAT QUESTION AND HOPE THERE ARE MORE PROOF BROUGHT TO THE SURFACE FOR ALL OF US AS COLLECTORS.
I WILL PUT FORTH ONE LAST THING IN THE MIX BEFORE I LEAVE, BACK WHEN THE GLASS WAS BEING MADE AT STEUBEN GLASS, ALSO OVER IN EUROPE THERE WAS A COMPANY THAT ALSO MADE A VERY SIMILAR GLASS THAT WAS ALSO DECORATED WITH GOLD.
THANKS RANDE FOR THE ATTENTION ABOUT THE ARTICLE —– BOB MUELLER
