Begin to make your travel plans now for the tenth annual Carder Steuben Club Symposium co-sponsored by the Corning Museum of Glass. This year’s Symposium will begin on Thursday, September 23 and will continue through Saturday evening, September 25. Events are being planned during the day on Thursday with a small Glass Show scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. At least one event will also occur during the afternoon on Thursday.
Hotel reservations at discounted rates can be made at the Radisson Corning (607-962-5000) or the Comfort Inn (607-962-1515) or at the Hillcrest Manor Bed and Breakfast (607-936-4548). To receive the discounted rate, just indicate that you are participating in the Carder Steuben Club Symposium when you register.
At last year’s Symposium we introduced a new session called Group Collectors’ Choice. Our post-Symposium evaluations from last year indicated that this was a well received session so we are repeating it this year with a new theme – Goblets, Sherbets and Plates. Dig into your collection and bring your favorite Carder Steuben goblet, sherbet or plate (or a photograph) to the Symposium and share with everyone why the color, shape, pattern, acquisition story or sentimental value is so special to you. To get us started, Jim Sutterfield will share several sherbets from his extensive collection, Ed Bush will share several goblets including one he will never part with, and, in recognition of this Tenth Annual Symposium, Marshall Ketchum will show his collection of commemorative Symposium plates that extend back to the Friends of Carder Symposiums. Mark Chamovitz will again serve as Moderator for this session.
Other details of the Symposium will be shared in future Gazettes prior to the mailing of the Symposium program brochure and registration materials in early July.
