Some things (Elizabeth Post, Gov’t buying foreign glass)

Scott Hansen sends this goodie along
Today’s print edition of the Wall Street Journal (at least the Northeast edition) contains Elizabeth Post’s obituary on page A6. Elizabeth Post was the successor to the etiquette franchise started by her husband’s grandmother, Emily Post.

The 1968 photograph accompanying the obituary is a picture of Ms. Post lighting candles which are set in four shape 7746 candlesticks. There are also two 7698 Table Decorations (the fish) on the table. Unfortunately the WSJ on-line copy of the photograph is cropped so it is difficult to see the Carder pieces.

Dave Williams has a few thoughts about the earlier reports on our State Department buying glass gifts overseas
I had trouble keeping quiet over the news in these two issues. Not only is this a matter of American glass manufacturers, but of who in the State Department or whoever can make such large purchase decisions to buy outside the US to supply items to equip our US embassies. I wonder ?, I wonder ?

I would certainly like to hear more detains of this purchase, and any future action taken.

Finally, an encouring note from Lon KnickerbockerI read with joy and enthusiasm Michael Krumme’s request for speakers for the glass club he belongs to. In this day of internet and everything electronic I admire those that try to keep the hobby going by belonging to club’s and meeting on a regular basis. Kudos to Michael and his group and I wish I lived closer as I would be happy to help.
