Issue 659
In an earlier e-mail Gazette I indicated that we welcomed selling of Carder Steuben Glass at the Symposium. Part of the fun of a Symposium is going to the shops that have glass for sale and finding other outlets. For this we invited anyone, dealer or not, with or without a shop, to post their availability of glass for sale. Here is a response from Lon Knickerbocker who had a wondrous display in his hotel room last year.
Hi to everyone-
Once again this year Deb and I will be offering Steuben glass for sale in our room. Deb won’t be there until Friday evening- as she has a real job being a school teacher. There were a couple of questions last year that we decided to address this year- The first question was- what about us people who stayed at the Comfort Inn? ( last year we of course were at the Radison) Well this year we will be at the Comfort Inn and after this year we will alternate between the two hotels as we continue to do this. The second question was a concern members had regarding my pricing structure- last year I simply put the price i would accept on the piece. Most collectors like the idea of a negotiation point and frankly so do I, with that in mind this year come and make your best deal or your best offer or whatever.
Last year for many members the most difficult part of getting to see the items was time and this year will probably be even more difficult. It seems many members like the idea of something like this but the schedule of both symposium days is very full from morning to night. Many members have commented unless they can make it to town by Wed. or very early Thurs.- they won’t have time to even walk Market St. or get to see the museums. In our case we will do everything possible to be available when time allows. We expect to be ready to let members see what we have by 1:00pm on Thursday and since we will not be attending the Fri. night dinner we will gladly entertain any of you who wish to come see the glass or visit at that time.
So you can contact us anytime- my cell phone is 585-329-8259. my e-mail is thecoast@frontiernet.net Some members called our hotel room last year and this is fine- the hotel staff may not give out the room #- although I will request to them that it is ok to do so-in any event they will ring the room and you be able to speak with us.
Just to give a little warm-up- some items that will be available are a very unique 1414 perfume- a pair of large blue aurene bullett shades ( blue aurene shades are extremely rare) These shades are currently on a pair of lamps but would be well served on a pair of sconces. There will also be several items not currently pictured on the Carder Steuben website and several small items which seem to be a favorite with many collectors who have space limitations or who are traveling by air. For those traveling -we are happy to ship items to your address if this helps.
Last year several of you who were not able to attend the symposium contacted us and asked us about special items and requests- we appreciated this very much and I know some of you were happy you did. Members may contact us anytime throughout the year as I am always acquiring new and fresh items.
One final thought- recently our president- Alan has asked me to do an article for the blog on whimsies- I told Alan I would be happy to. In response to Alan’s request we will do a small but impressive display of the very special items in our room.
Well- that’s it- we hope to see as many as you as possible and enjoy the Carder Steuben symposium and as always- keep collecting- it’s fun.
Thanks-
Lon Knickerbocker
