Issue 577
From Beth Shaut of Corning.
Most Auction House appreciate the heads up on pieces as it save them returns and cost of something that could have been prevented. I feel it is so unfair to sell something as something it is not especially to new collectors. Auction houses reputation can be affected by selling something that is not what they state it to be.
From Tommie Dreiling of NYC.
When I see a piece up for auction that I know for sure is misidentified and can send the auction house or dealer a book citation to back me up I often let them know. Case in point, a few years ago Woody Auction Company in Kansas had a beautiful Steuben covered urn lamp shape # 2806 listed as Quezal. I hated to see such a spectacular piece of Steuben sold as Quezal so I emailed them with the info citing the Gardner book with the page number. They emailed me back thanking me for the info and changed the listing.
