Issue 574
A great many responses on authentification.
Will follow in a number of Gazettes.
First from Willson Craigie
I’d like to add that I, also, have perused upcoming offerings from a major auction house. I took note, in light of out discussion here, that one item: a cire perdure piece was photographed and at this early stage, additional photos are rendered of a Carder signature. It is VERY obvious that this auction house believes the signature is of some significant additional value to potential bidders.

Next, from Charles Sweigert.
A quote from the contributor to the last Gazette; ” While I fully agree with the idea that one has to know what one is buying, I hate to see errors at best, or misrepresentation at worst, in an auction setting.”
Charles Sweigart’s response, when you find an misattributed piece for sale in a shop for a fraction of worth, do you alert the vendor to the mistake or buy the item?
More to come.
