Issue 535
The question was asked where the cord on the Sweigart lamp come from Charles answers.
The glass is drilled and the cord comes through the bottom. These are most definitely factory made examples as the etched marks were added after drilling. Therefore drilled at Steuben factory and marked there. The mounts are professionally designed and made. While the lamps are quite petite, the metal work is rather like the large torchieres which held the A206 kneeling nude plaques. It is apparent that much is to be learned about the metal work that held Steuben glass in lamps.
Bob Mueller who started the lamp discussion responds.
ALAN–I THOUGHT WOULD GET MY 5 WORDS IN ON 2 THINGS–FIRST AS TO THE PAIR OF LAMPS FROM CHARLES SWEIGART—I HAVE SEEN THAT LAMP FOR MANY YEARS ,BUT ALSO IN GOLD AURENE. THEY DID HAVE THE SAME BASES TO THEM BUT ON SOME THEY HAD SINGLE SOCKETS TO THEM ALSO . THE SOCKETS ALSO HAD AGE ON THEM AS SHOWN IN THIS PAIR. ALSO ON ONE ,MAYBE TWO THERE WERE CERAMIC FLOWERS WRAPPED AROUND THE SIDES AS DECORATIONS. I DO THINK THESE ARE REAL . THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS AROUND IN THE PAST YEARS
