The Carder Steuben Club will be hosting its annual Symposium this coming Oct. 1-3 in Corning, NY at the Corning Museum of Glass. The Chairman of this year’s Symposium, Scott Hansen, has been busy planning an exciting program. The theme and title is “Frederick Carder: Influence and Inspiration” After each of the last two Symposiums Scott has carefully prepared and examined the results of a survey on wants, likes and dislikes. He’s worked hard on tailoring the programing to match up to a broad offering of interest. Part of that is the comfort of meals that drive much of the programming and encourage sparkling comradery. Here’s Scott’s introduction to the Symposium planning.

Last year’s Symposium evaluations made it abundantly clear that the Carder Steuben group likes to eat. We have added another evening dining experience as a result. On Thursday evening, October 1, Dick Bright and Kyle Goodman have again graciously agreed to host the opening Symposium Pizza and Wine Party at their home. This informal social event is the first “official” activity of the Symposium and is a great way to renew old acquaintances, meet new friends and admire Dick and Kyle’s glass collection. Friday evening, October 2, is the new dining experience. After the Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) closes to the public for the day, we have arranged a private dinner in the Museum for Symposium attendees. Marie McKee, President of CMoG will welcome us and then we will all enjoy dinner together. Following dinner, Jane Spillman, Curator of American Glass at CMoG, will lead the group on a private, guided tour of some of the Museum collection. The evening will finish, of course, in the Carder Gallery in Building B. Then, on Saturday evening, October 3, the closing Symposium banquet will be held in the Riverfront Cafe in the Corning Incorporated corporate headquarters overlooking the Chemung River and will be followed by the glass auction. If all that isn’t enough, breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday are also provided.
