Issue 509
First, a follow up to yesterday’s Gazette and John Kohut referring us to tomorrow’s PBS show, Antique Roadshow from Wichita. Expect to see our member, Stephen Gleissner, curator of the Wichita Museum of Art. His museum has assembled one of the best museum collections of Steuben, both from the Carder era and the later Houghton era, outside of the Corning Museum of Glass.
Next, looking for a speaking opportunity about Carder Steuben? Helaine Fendelman, appraiser, syndicated columnist and co-host of PBS program “Treasures in Your Attic” passes this item along about Tammy Fennel looking for people to interview on CollectiblesCornerTV.com. See attached.
Finally, Scott Hansen, Chairman of the Carder Steuben Club’s annual Symposium (Oct. 2-3), to be held in Corning, NY reports on the return of the popular ID clinic.
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. We won’t be having a wedding at this year’s Symposium but there will be something old and something new. After an absence of several years, we will again devote time to the ID Clinic. This session will be devoted to the examination and discussion of glass items brought to the Symposium for the purpose of identifying their color, shape number or pattern, confirming a belief that they are indeed Carder Steuben, learning how they were constructed or decorated or answering any other questions you might have about your glass item. Mark Buffa, Marshall Ketchum, Lon Knickerbocker and Bobby Rockwell will offer their expertise and opinions as this year’s ID Clinic panel. The success of this session is directly related to the items brought to the Symposium by those in attendance so if you have questions about any glass items in your collection, please bring them to the Symposium for the panel to review and the group to discuss.
