Carol Kalinich offers comments are giving speeches and films on Carder Steuben and receptivity.
I am so pleased to see some interest in people going out and giving lectures! I use power point or enlarged photos (pricy), but are best
smaller audiences.
I have found folks hanging on my every word, esp. when I bring up Tiffany and Carders colored glass being destroyed in order to bring in the new and out with the old. I do it from an artistic era point of view rather than a cruel deed (as much as possible).
Remember I asked if you knew the girls from Steuben in NYC that I was sitting with at the birthday dinner? Well, that is because the girl sitting across from me is from Croatia – living and working at Steuben, and
her husband is a film maker! We had quite a bright idea that evening about making a film about Frederick Carder. I am well connected with a musician who can do sound and 100 years of music for the film, but she never called. It would be a great project for her husband alone, so it does not surprise me. The VA Museum of Fine Arts has the largest film reference library in the country–they may be able to assist? But my intuition says the Croatian lady’s husband!!!! Then there is always Ken Burns-eh…his civil war and WWII were extraordinary pieces, but he has become pricy since his Civil War film days.
I am just glad to see some ideas popping out there! There could be a series of lectures and films, for there is so much info on his work, esp. for students!
And, some more comment from Carol Kalinich
Here again, people want speakers on Carder and his glass. Maybe I should package mine? I would love to travel the country and lecture, but I could not afford to fund it by myself–air fare etc. If anyone wants to “book” me I do have some dates available. I have gotten interest from Women’s Clubs, Tea Houses (Restaurants)-next will come school art classes, historical groups, art leagues, galleries, and museums. My next task is to write up a brochure, join a speaker’s bureau and disseminate the info. At the moment I have earned $150 for 2 lectures. The people paying $100.00 cash for 45 min talk, also provided 2 free guests for tea and 2 free dinners! I just have to get the word out! People ARE interested.
Cordially, Carol
