American Artisan Online

May 7, 2007
Issue 251

We have released a press release piece to media about the Carder Steuben
Club’s Sept. Symposium. We sent you a copy of this release earlier. American
Artisan Online magazine, an arts and craft web site has picked this up to include
in their summer issue. I’m attaching the write up they’ve developed. I think it
will make good reading and show the kind of interest the Symposium, and its
theme on the unity of metal & glass can deliver. Yes, Mr. Carder uniqueness and
brilliance was being able during his years at Steuben to cover and capture so
many art periods, from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, and everything in between.
That includes the arts and crafts movement. After you look at the attachment
you might want to look at the web site which is listed in the item.
This brings up another point. We want to send our press release out far and
wide. Someone suggested sending it to the western antique papers to attract
people from that part of the country. You know, those free papers you pick up
at the antique shops. Problem is, we don’t know what those papers are, whether
western, south eastern or whatever. So, if you follow an antique or related
publication, or pick up a freebie at your antique shop, send back the information
so we can send out a press release to them.

The Newark Museum is doing an exhibit on “The Art of Glass from Galle to
Chihuly”, from May 6 to Aug. 5, 2007. Don’t know if there is any Carder glass in
this exhibit, but art glass on display excites the senses and more and more is
being recognized by museums as a display that attracts an audience. I spent
sometime this weekend at the Evansville Museum examining the inventive and
creative paperweights on display produced by Debbie Tarsitano. In an earlier email
I sent you her web site. The attendant at the door told us that it has been
amazing how much interest art glass garners. This is the fifth exhibit at the
Evansville Museum of art glass, including Steuben. The Steuben exhibit was 1 ½
years ago and the attendant said it is still drawing unbelievable comment. Now in
turn, Debbie’s exhibit is drawing them in. This all bodes well for the Carder
collector, or for that matter art glass collectors in general.
