After prominent Steuben dealer Joan Miller passed away a little over a year ago
many wondered what would happen to her inventory. Well, now we have the
answer.
Enclosed please find a rough press release concerning the Joan Miller collection.
Joan Callner Miller was a well respected glass dealer and collector, much beloved
in the Steuben glass world. Her sudden passing in late 2005, was a shock to the
her clients, fellow dealer’s and the antiques world in general. Bonhams &
Butterfields is proud to offer Ms. Miller’s collection. It is the largest collection
of Steuben glass to appear on the market in many years.
The Joan Callner Miller Collection of Steuben Glass offers a full range of
Steuben’s artistic output, from their important early years under the direction
of legendary glass visionary, Frederick Carder, through the modern period, where
the creations of a talented group of designers are executed in crystal. This
important collection will include a selection of early Steuben’s signature blue and
gold Aurene pieces as well as the more unusual techniques including Florentia,
Cluthra, Cintra, Tyrian, Verre de soie, Ivrene and Rosaline. Included are a rare
Tyrian lamp base and vase, peacock vase, decorated red pieces, unusual Cluthra
and Oriental Jade, a nice selection of perfume bottles in blue and gold, a gold
Aurene over black acid-cut back lamp base, a rare faceted internally decorated
Cintra perfume bottle and two cire-perdue, lost wax, glass sculptures.
Also included is a strong selection of Steuben crystal pieces including Partridge
in a Pear Tree, Carousel, Ice Hunter, stemware and a menagerie of animals.
The collection will be offered in Los Angeles, as part of the 20th Century
Decorative Arts auction which will take place April 4, 2007 at 6 pm. The preview
