The schooner represents the American racing yacht Atlantic. Designed by William Gardner, owned by Wilson Marshall, and skippered by Captain Charley Barr, Atlantic won the Kaiser's Cup Race of 1905. One of eleven contenders in this fourth transatlantic contest, Atlantic raced from Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to the Lizard, off the coast of Cornwall, in a record time of twelve days, four hours, one minute, nineteen seconds for a distance of 3,014 nautical miles.
